An Operating System is the software which communicates with the hardware of a PC and functions as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, which includes peripherals such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the contact is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Identical to a personal computer, web hosting servers also have an Operating System that serves as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be generated on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.
Multiple OS in VPS
We offer as many as three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our virtual private servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the most stable and reliable OSs on the market and we offer all three of them rather than only 1 because we realize that you may want to set up some software which has specific requirements regarding the Operating System it'll run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a huge support community behind it and there're different software programs you may install on the server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you want to use one and because of this we offer several Control Panels as well. If you ever decide that you need to have some other OS, our tech support can quickly wipe the current one and set up the one that you would like. In addition, we offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
In case you decide to get one of our dedicated servers, you will find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice for the system environment on your machine as different applications could have particular requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian contain different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select any of these OSs and take advantage of a reliable and risk-free hosting service. Based on your choice, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software that you want to run. We can also update your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible through our Managed Services upgrade package.
