If you would like to transfer a domain name from one domain registrar to another, you’ll need to pass through several security steps. One of them is getting a special EPP authentication code from the present domain registrar – as long as you are the registrant, since the code is emailed to the domain owner’s email address and nobody else can obtain it. You’ll need to give this code to the new registrar company, otherwise they will not be able to begin the domain transfer process. The EPP authentication codes are case-sensitive and may comprise of numbers or special symbols such as commas or dots, which can be easily mistyped, so make sure you copy and paste the correct code. As an extra security measure, the transfer code for a domain may be changed regularly. Some companies call this code an Auth key, a domain password or a domain secret as well.
